1. The triangle shirt Factory was a Factory that was located in the heart of the lower east side, and they produced the new clothing trend for women called the shirtwaist.
ReplyDeletewhy did the factory go down in flames if it was so efficient?
ReplyDeleteA machine probably got over heated and caught fire im guessing lol.
Deletei found out that a match was droped on the 8th floor and that was what caused the fire
Deletetheir job was constantly put on the line for any little mistake they did and alot was expected from them
ReplyDelete#FaxctZ
DeleteWORDDDDDDDD
DeleteJu know!!!!
Delete2. It operated 1909 to 1911
ReplyDeleteIts not fair that workers had to pay for the materials they used ...
ReplyDeletedid anyone catch sight of our image? i just did.
ReplyDelete-eddelson
The workers were mistreated as if they were nothing.
ReplyDeleteHey guys . I think I just saw the doorknob from yesterday. (:
ReplyDeletei saw the doorknob from the image we looked at
ReplyDelete1. The Triangle Shirt Factory in lower east side Manhattan they also produced clothing most known of there creations was the shirtwaist.
ReplyDelete2. The years it operated were from 1909-1911
@castro - what did the image represent?
ReplyDelete-eddelson
the image I don't exactly know what it represented . In the movie the guy locked the door and it was said to be the only way out of the factory so I guess It represented capture or imprisonment . Like the workers were owned.
DeleteI feel like the women who are working in the factories are being treated incredibly unfairly, and the owners of the factory are becoming paranoid due to loss of profit. I also feel that this paranoia and the working condition is what led to the high casualty count of the fire.
ReplyDeleteI saw the doorknob too everyone peeped
ReplyDeletethe factory was located in new york city
ReplyDeleteThe Triangle Shirt Factory was lOcated in New York City. LES Manhattan. The factory operated from 1909 to 1911
ReplyDelete@genevieve are you asking? if so yeaaa lower east side
ReplyDeleteLife Was Rough For Them .
ReplyDeletemessed up that the workers couldnt complain or else they would probably be fired
ReplyDeletetrue but if all of them complained at the same time i dont think the factory owners could have fired all of the workers
Delete1.Greenwich Village , New York .

3. Unionization was being played out at the center of the factory.
yeah. but you lived in it, son.
DeleteIdk how they were able to live like this. having terrible jobs and then also going back to cramped up houses after work. and working for close to nothing. crazy.
ReplyDelete#1. The Triangle factory was located in New York
#2 It was operated between 1909 - 1911
I dont understand how ppl be dead broke N uu got like 15 kids -__-

DeleteThe Workers Were Treated Unfairly
ReplyDelete@castro - nice comment. i too see it both as a physical and metaphorical barrier for workers!
ReplyDeleteI beleive these woman were treated poorly. I beleive because of their background and who they were. Worst part most of these 500 women who worked at the factory started at a very young age working hard and long hours only getting minumum wage at the age of 13. Which reminds me about Child Labor..
ReplyDeletefamilies needed children to work and make money. thus childhood didnt really exist at all for most.
ReplyDeletethats the main reason for having so much kids for the support right?
DeleteProbably, but I think another reason would just basically that they didn't use protection because it was just cheaper not to :P
Delete20000 people went on strike they only got the weaker and smaller shirtwaists factories but the triangle factory did not give in
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing that they didn't just go and gave up they fought for there rights as well as what was right for workers
ReplyDelete#1. The Triangle Factory Was In Lower East Manhattan.
ReplyDelete#2. The Factory Operated From 1909 - 1911
#3.Unionization Was Played Out At The Factory
wait. why couldnt they just give them better conditions from the start? the owners are so unappreciative, like those are your works..
ReplyDeleteGREEEEEEEEED
Deletethe owners probably didn't gve them any incentives like good conditions because they know the workers aren't going anywhere. Working at thale triangle shirt factory was like a good job back then . So what would the workers do if they don't get good conditions ? Quit. Haha , the owners would love to see that
DeleteI feel like families needed more money . Therefore kids worked to bring in more income. With that being said having kids wasn't always a bad thing it helped in some ways
ReplyDeleteTRUUUU!!!!
Deleteyep. children were seen more like commodities than children at times.
DeleteIm On The Workers Side All The Way The Bosses Were Horrible . No More Locked Doors !
ReplyDeletenow these same scenarios are being played out in other, poorer countries by similar companies.
ReplyDelete-eddelson
@richelle = "no more locked doors" - a haunting prophecy
ReplyDeleteThey Can Smoke In The Factories ??
ReplyDelete#3 I think the social issue that was going on through the factory was that they wanted like better conditions sense they were so bad . and they wanted unions to be created so that they could have better safety while working in these dangerous factories.
ReplyDeletego figure - you can work people like slaves but are allowed to smoke in the process.
ReplyDeleteSMH . so that's how the fire started . A freaking smoker caused it -.- inconsiderate . I bet it was probably an owner too .
ReplyDeleteWord !
Deletesmoking shouldnt even be allowed in factories
Deletewas it a cigerate that started the fire cuz first of all who the hell is smoking in the sweatshop and second on the link at the top of the page it says that a match started the fire
ReplyDelete1. The Triangle Shirt Factory was located in the center of NYC.
ReplyDelete2. It operated from 1909 to 1911.
3. The women took a stand and began to start an uprising. This resulted in unions. Unfortunately these factories refused to give up.
They Could Of Used The Buckets Of Water !
ReplyDeleteit's 9 stories high!
Delete3. The big social issue was simply that the workers wanted better rights and conditions for working but couldn't get them because of these bosses not caring and being money greedy
ReplyDeleteMary Bucelli was smart. Nobody cared about her before the fire so why should she be considerate to others when it started . Do you babygirl and get out of that building by all means !!!!
ReplyDeleteDAMMNN MARIE GOT CAUGHT!!!!! :/
ReplyDelete1. The factory was located in manhattan, New York.
ReplyDelete2. the factory operated from 1909-1911.
3. Unionization was being played out.
Smokers? really -.-
They did anything to escape ):
ReplyDeleteI guess, if you're in it together, you go down together. Sad...
ReplyDeletewerd . smh
Delete#3: the social cause was that women wanted better lives for themselves . They wanted to work in a better environment, a safer environment.
ReplyDeleteThe Light that we seen on the side of the door in our picture was the fire .
ReplyDelete*high five* that was a really good connection .
Deleteyes it was a cigarette but back then this was typical as smoking was NOT regulated.
ReplyDeletei could only imagine what it must feel like to watch a friend burn and die in front of you :(
ReplyDeletei would honestly be traumatized
DeleteBuckets of Water? it's nine stories high, yo.
ReplyDeleteWOW! i never knew it was caused by a cigerate im thinking it was a over heated machine something that couldnt be provented but something as simple as that.. thats sad that everyone died to to that careless person.
ReplyDeletei wonder who it was that droped the cigerate
Deletethe cigarette, Nicholas? or the ball?
DeleteRight!
Deletewhat do u mean about the ball? :/
DeleteI wonder why we study this tragedy?
ReplyDeleteI feel like we study this to realize how much america has been through. Like the lack of freedom and no rights i guess? To let our generation know we've come a long way?
Delete1. The Triangle Shirt Factory was located in lower east side Manhattan.
ReplyDelete2. It was operated from 1909-1911
3. The social issue was that many of these woman took stands and eventually came to creating unions but knowing these bosses and their greed they would not give up at but also at the same time the factory workers would not settle
Did they die from the cigarette OR the lack of regulations of it and safety measures in the factory?
ReplyDeleteboth , i guess the cigarette was only a wake up call.
DeleteThey died from the lack of regulations and safety measures. You cannot die from a cigarette like that. But if there was better safety measures like UNLOCKED doors . Workers could've gotten out faster and safely ... More workers could've survived
Deletei think safety, cause if they had that in the first place and regulations none of this would have happened.
DeleteI would say both, because if there were more safety regulations. There would probably be no smoking in the factories and this would have never happened.
DeleteiTS REALLY BOTH BUT LIKE WHY ARE YOU SMOKING IN AN AREA LIKE THAT DOSENT MAKE SENSE *ALONIE JONES
DeleteIf the ladder wasn't big enough why didn't they try to combine another ladder to the one they was using??
ReplyDeleteno such thing back then. funny cause building were way taller than Triangle, too. reminds me of 9/11 and how the towers burned. seems we, as a society, only act after the fact.
Delete#3 the bosses were simply greedy n were willing to make money at any cost.
ReplyDeleteIts sad how all of them were friends and knew each other pretty well but at the end of the day they all were fighting for their own lives..
ReplyDeleteThis tragic fire was only started by a cigarette bud , but killed so many innocent people. SMH
ReplyDelete4. A cigarette started the fire in the factory ending the lives of many workers. Most women burned to death, fell down elevator shafts, or basically commited suicide by jumping onto the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteall of this for a cigerate that sucks
DeleteAtleast most of them tried to survive?
ReplyDeleteIf there were unions this probably would have never happened. Then again anything is possible especially back then with the lack of rules concerning the safety of our people.
Delete1. The Triangle shirt factory was located in the center of the lower east side.
ReplyDelete2. The years the triangle shirt factory operated was from 1909 to 1911.
3.Unionization was played out at the factory.
start thinking about why we study this!
ReplyDelete4. A fire took place shortly because of a ciggarette. Many of the workers died most of them trying to survive.
ReplyDeleteAFTER The Tragic Event ..People Had To Come And Try To Identify Their Loved Ones.
ReplyDeletethe bosses were let go even richer than before. thanks to insurance claims and no laws protecting the worker.
ReplyDelete1. Where was the Triangle Shirt Factory?
ReplyDelete-The Triangle Shirt Factory was located in New York City
2. What year(s) did it operate?
-Operated from 1901-1911
3. What social cause was being played out at the center of the factory?
-Unionization .
there were plenty of tragedies in history. why is this one so important?
ReplyDeletedoes it have anything to do with the suffrage because they fought but did not win but because of them getting burnt to death the government created labor laws, minimum wage and such
Delete4. A fire started by someone's lit cigarette and many woman and girls died from either burning, jumping out of the building or falling down elevator shafts
ReplyDelete#4 there was a fire that killed many in 1911
ReplyDeleteI feel like we study this because if we look at everything we have .. We have to think, what happened for this piece of clothing to be made. Did a lady cut her finger while making this. Did a child lose his mother before making this. Everything we have somebody probably suffered in order to make it
ReplyDeleteI thought of it as what if it was me and my family the ones working there... Would people today appreciate it
Delete1. Where was the Triangle Shirt Factory?
ReplyDeleteThe Triangle Shirt Factory was located in New York City.
2. What year(s) did it operate?
The factory operated during 1909 until 1911
3. What social cause was being played out at the center of the factory?
The cause that was being played out was unionization in the workplace.
4. What tragic event occurred there shortly after?
An improperly put-out cigarette caused a fire, which ended up razing the factory, which caused one of the worst industrial accidents in the history of New York City.
5. What dramatic social reforms were implemented as a result of this tragedy?
The public thought that industry should no longer be unregulated. Regulations were put into place, and a factory safety commission was created.
The film depicts an epic clash between workers who fought for unionization and better working conditions, and bosses who fought equally hard to keep their factories free of unions and regulation. While watching the film, make note of arguments on both sides of this debate.
6. Then answer: Which of these arguments do you consider most persuasive?
I consider the argument for the strikers to be most convincing, seeing as how the factory owners come across as arrogant and avaricious with their stance against th strikers.
7. What caused public opinion to shift from favoring the factory owners' arguments to supporting workers' demands for workplace regulation?
The shift in public opinion was caused when J.P. Morgan Chase's daughter started to support the strikers. With such an affluent member on the striker's side, the public opinion changed drastically.
8. Did you see our original image? What was the meaning behind it? How did it differ from what you previously thought?
The meaning behind the picture could be a symbol of negligence. With such a disregard to the safety of the workers, the picture could symbolize what can happen, if you neglect your workers. I didn't think about it, so I can't say it differred from what I originally thought since there was no thought to compare it to.
Not only did the ladders did not reach but the fire escapes had collapsed during the rescue. they hardly had any easy access to water. A lot were trapped and squished because of the doors beinq locked. They had ran out of luck tryna find ways out of the building. Sucks
ReplyDelete5. this tragedy created great social reforms such as new labor laws and government got involved in setting the rules.
ReplyDeletethats not realy a dream it sounds more like a nightmare to me
ReplyDelete#4. the tragic accident that occurred was that the triangle factory caught fire and many women that worked in the factory were killed.
ReplyDelete#5.Social reforms that were made after this were the child labor laws and better workin conditions in the factories. its just sad that they had to die first for this to happen just as the woman on the film said
It's amazing how the spit imagine of the door knob resembles much more to it.
ReplyDelete"Rarely do we get such legislative reform BUT women had to burn first."
ReplyDeleteWOWOWOWOW! What a quote. Now discuss.
#DUECES
ReplyDelete-The factory was located in the lower east side of manhatten.
ReplyDelete-It operated from 1901-1911
-The social cause that was being played out is unionization, workers wanted better working conditions and wanted a safer working environment.
-The tragic event that started shortly after was a fire in a factory that a cigarette bud caused . I feel that if there were safer working conditions and better regualtions this wouldnt have happened or even if the doors were unlocked there would have been a possibility that the workers could have escaped.
1. The triangle factory was located in lower east side Manhattan.
ReplyDelete2. It operated from 1909-1911.
3.Unionization was being played out ar the center of the factory.
4. The tragic event that occured was the fire which was only started by a cigarrette bud.
6. i find that the argument from the srikers to be very convincing because alot of them showed up more then almost anyone expected
ReplyDeletethat was crazy and yeai did see the door knob and the men could walk ? that isnt fair
ReplyDelete5.Labor Laws.
ReplyDelete7. i think public opinion was mostly changed when jp morgans daughter began to help support the cause. when people saw that a women of her status was helping the strikers i think they began to actually listen and consider what was going on
ReplyDelete@mr eddelson
ReplyDeleteThis fire was important in history because after new York was aware of what happened in this factory they were pressured to make laws . The made laws that helped out workers in workplaces like this . They contained safety measures and other laws that benefits them.
#5 labor laws , minimum wage and child labor laws
ReplyDelete6. consider the argument for the strikers to convincing, seeing how the factory owners come across as arrogant and avaricious with their stance against th strikers.
ReplyDelete#5 they created laws to protect people from another tragedy from happening again such as maximum hours, minimum wage, etc.
ReplyDelete9. the image in the film was very different then what i thought it was. the image represented restriction of the employers and the light i think represented the fire that was going on. its crazy how a the door being locked contributed so much to alot of deaths
ReplyDelete4. What tragic event occurred there shortly after?
ReplyDelete- A Devastating tragic occurred at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. A fire started in the building on the 6th floor from a cigarette that rised to 9th floor with about 280 factory women workers unaware of the fire trapped on the floor with limited exits.
5. What dramatic social reforms were implemented as a result of this tragedy?
There were several Labor Laws acknowledging poor working conditions and treatment of workers in factory. Building regulations were created in response to the closed door that could have saved hundreds of lives.
7.The shift in public opinion was caused when J.P. Morgan Chase's daughter started to support the strikers
ReplyDelete5. I think woman and people in general were given more rights as shaun said regulations were put into order. They knew the same thing couldnt happen ever again.
ReplyDelete1. the triangle shirt factory was in the center of the lower east side
ReplyDelete2. the years that it operated was
3. the social cuase was like the shirtwaists factory workers were being neglected and even if they wanted to use the bathroom they couldnot they couldnt even use the bathroom they had always keep on working
4. the trajic event was that the cigarette had lit the factory in flams and many women died from trying to escape from the flames and jumped out windows and burning to death in front of peoples eyes
5.the dramatic social reforms was when people started to raise money for funerals and stuff helping the families who has lost anyone.
6. i think the strikers are more convincing becuase they were pointing out very important things about how they need better working conditions and stuff to help them in working
7. i think that the fire toke the union to final realize that it was time to have better working condition for all the workers
8. i think that it toke the fire and from all thoose women dieng for the union to actually realize something
#6 i think their argument was very valid but due to their position in society ppl couldnt feed into it
ReplyDelete4.Tragic Event : A Fire Started By A Cigarette .
ReplyDelete5.Dramatic Social Reforms : Set Standards For Minimum Wage && Work Hours && Better Working Conditions .Created Laws && Government Started To Get Involved .
6. Most Persuasive Argument : The Strikers , Seemed Like The Owners Didnt Really Care , Took The Insurance Money && Dipped .
7.Public Opinion : Because They Knew The Owners Were Wrong && Because Famous People Such As J.P Morgan Chase's Daughter Got Involved .
8. The Original Image : The Original Image Is To Show That The Doorknob Was A Major Part , If The Door Wasnt Locked , They Could Of Got Out && More People Would Have Been Alive .
#6 the argument that i think is more persasive is the workers like i would never be on the owner side because those were terrible conditions just imagine your self going through that.
ReplyDelete#7They changed from the owners to the workers because many people died do to to conditions that they were in, in the first place so i guess it showed them how bad things really where there.
#8. i didnt see the image because i was blogging at the time but i could pretty much make a connection to what the image must resemble. the picture must have been the door to the factory and the light that we say through the door was the light of the blaze. i didnt really know why we had to look at a door knob but now everything really ties together i didnt even thing that far into it before.
5. Regulations were finally put up in these factories. Unions began to form. This betters the safety of the workers. Its sad to know that it had to take so many lives of innocent women for people to realize that these factories NEED boundaries. I mean like without it what kind of society are we? We need to be able to support each other.
ReplyDelete6. In my opinion the strikers had reason to start unions. The strikers had numerous reasons to have regulations. They all put their lives on the line to support not only their own families but the families of others.
7. J.P. Morgan's daughter supported these strikers as soon as this happened the public began to change sides.
8. The meaning behind the doorknob represented the imprisonment of these women. The locked door showed their inability to escape being trapped in a hell hole.
#7 the amount of ppl that participated in the movement
ReplyDeleteand jp morgans daughter supported it
Delete5. Social reforms that were implemented were labor laws.
ReplyDelete6.I find the workers arguments are most persuasive because they were being treated unfairly basically taking advantage of. The people didnt deserve this its bad enough they had to work in the factory for hours under these bad working conditions.
7. The public opinion shifted because famous people started to get involved like J.P Morgan Chase daughter.
8. Yes i seen the original image, i also noticed it had no windows on it, it was just the flames coming off the door.
I think that if all the women stood up at the same time they all probably would have gotten replaced
ReplyDelete8. The meaning behind the doorknob represented the imprisonment of these women. The locked door showed their inability to escape being trapped in the factory.
ReplyDelete#5.Standards were set for low wages and bad factory conditions
ReplyDelete#6.The strikers
#7.The famous people got involved
#8.Before i thought the door was open w. sun light coming out but now i know that what i thought was sunlight was actually fire.
7. the shift was caused by j.p morgan
ReplyDelete5. The dramatic social reforms were that they put in regulations which were the woman fighting for unionization and the bosses obviously not giving them what they want and government added certain regulations
ReplyDelete6. The arguments of the strikers were convincing reason that they did not quit even though some of there demands were't met.
7. It was caused by J.P Morgans daughter who took on to the woman's in the factories cause.
8.Yes. The meaning behind it was just that the woman didn't have freedom at all. It differed alot because we had to create the story which threw me off.
1. lower east side manhattan
ReplyDelete2. 1909-1911
3. the Unionization was being played out at the center of the factory.
4. someone had been smoking when the flames had started.
5. the industry was no longer unregulated and the regulation was still in place.
6. the argument the strikers were convining because they were showing the important factors and also were saying they needed better working conditions.
7. the shift in public opinion was caused when J.P. Morgan Chase's daughter.
5) they created laws to protect others from tradgys
ReplyDelete6) I find the the workers argument the most persausive because in my opinion the workeds had very unsafe working environment.
CMON PEOPLE DISCUSS!!!!
ReplyDelete"Rarely do we get such legislative reform BUT women had to burn first."
WOWOWOWOW! What a quote. Now discuss.
THIS IS ALONIE JONES MY ACCOUNT IS BEONG STUPID. Isnt it man slaughter if he knew that its wrong to smoke around big mechinery . Its digusting too see a smirk on the person face after numerous people innocent lives were lost

5. Labor laws
6. I think the workers had a convincing argument
Delete7. I agree with workers but the it was the boss who had drop the cigarette
8. I think the image show no one was able to get out of the burning building
6. Which of these arguments do you consider most persuasive?
ReplyDeleteThe Striker arguments I consider to be the most persuasive because the brought about the horrible working conditions they faced everyday
7. What caused public opinion to shift from favoring the factory owners' arguments to supporting workers' demands for workplace regulation?
-The fire and the detail of the closed door and J.P. Morgan's daughter aiding the worker caused the public opinion to shift from favoring the factory owners' arguments to supporting worker' demand for work place regulation. So that they can prevent a predicament like what occurred at the triangle shirtwaist from happening.
8. Did you see our original image? What was the meaning behind it? How did it differ from what you previously thought?
- No I didn't see the original image with the door knob and the meaning of it at first. However after the film, Everything came together, the quotes and the image of the door knob I saw in the film.

5.)NY State fund a factory hearing after 2 years 30 new lawes were made. Gave teeth to child labor lawes also workers were able to get better pay.
6.)I find the workiers striking a very convincing argument because they wanted to treated more better also they got hurt alot.
7.)The amount of people who died during the fire is what caused people to notice that they need to be new reforms to factory workers.
8.)The door symbolize exscape for them and the door being closed i guess shows an unsave environment for for the workers.
1.)Lower eastside of Manhattan

4. The tragic event that had occurred in the factory was a cigarette bud and it had caused a fire.
5. The people had thought that the industry should no longer be unregulated. They had wanted regulations, to be safe in factories.
6.I would say the argument of the strikers was to be to be more convincing, because they had fought for their rights.
7.The striker's pleaded and the public opinion changed drastically.
8.I thought the door knob didn't really have a meaning to it other then just a open door, but my mind set has changed. I see what was really behind the picture of the knob. It had a much deeper meaning to it. The picture showed how it was the exit to the women's safety.
1) the factory triangle was located in the middle of nyc
ReplyDelete2) it operated 1909 to 1911
3) the unionization.
4)a fire was started and it caused the greatest industrial accident.
5)there was better working conditions, higher pay checks, and laws were created.

- unionization
-a cigarette caused the fire
-it changed the way the workers were treated by improving factory conditions
-i agree with the workers because the cigerate that started the fire was the bosses cigerate
-i belive that the imag means that the door knob ment death and that no one could open it up and escape it
New York City

ReplyDelete5. Social reforms were made, then later can child labors and better working conditions in the factory.
6. In my oppinion i think that the people on strike was the most convincing.
7. J.P Morgans daughter started supporting the strikers.
8.Yes, i saw the image from yesterday, To maybe show there will be no more locked doors in the factory, Yesterday i thought the door was just left open and no purpose was left behind it.
#2 1901-1911
ReplyDelete7) the shift in the public opinion was caused by JP morgans daughter who took on to the womens factories
ReplyDelete8) yesi think the meaning behind this is that it represented that women had no freedom.

ReplyDeleteLocated lower east side of manhattan produced the shirt waist . Operated from 1909-1911
ReplyDeleteWhere was the Triangle Shirt factory? The Triangle Shirt Factory was located Manhatten, New York.

What social cause was being played out at the center of the factory? The social cause that was being played out was that the workers were not being payed as they should and if they were injured they could not complain but keep on working also there were no bathroom breaks.

Which of these arguments do you consider most persuasive? I find Clara Lemich argument most persuasive because she was like one on the main speakers for the strikers and she knew all the workers were tired of the bad treatment and poor working habits.
What caused public opinion to shift from favoring the factory owners' arguments to supporting workers' demands for workplace regulation? The reason the public shift from favoring the factory owners to supporting the workers was because of Jp.P Morgan Chase Daughters intrest and support of the factory owners; and she was also a lady figure because the majority of workers were women and they could relate to each other.
